Indian government warns of security risk in Microsoft Edge browser: Update now
The Microsoft Edge browser has a security issue that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, or CERT-In, has flagged as medium severity this week. The Information Security Agency claims that Microsoft’s web browser has several security holes that could allow an attacker to bypass your device’s security and give them access to data stored on it.
The agency has also told about the problem and how it can affect the targeted devices. “These vulnerabilities exist in Microsoft Edge due to incorrect validation and user-supplied data handling during file download. An attacker could use this issue to force a user to open a website designed to attack their device,” CERT-In mentions in its notes.
It also mentions that the security issue affects Edge browser version prior to 112.0.1722.34. So if you have versions later than this, you are protected with the latest Microsoft patch in the update.
Despite the security issue, attackers usually resort to phishing attempts to infect their devices, and these security holes have become a popular tool to attack. The best way to avoid falling victim to such companies is to:
– Never open emails from unknown senders
– Never download attachments provided in e-mails from unknown persons
– Never click on a link provided in an email from unknown people
Microsoft has already issued a security bulletin regarding this issue, so we recommend updating the Edge browser on your computer and other devices immediately.
We’ve seen previous security warnings from CERT-In for Apple, Windows, and Android users, and now that Edge is slowly gaining popularity thanks to ChatGPT integration, it’s likely that attackers will see it as a viable option.
